Situated on the Potaro river in Guyana the Kaieteur waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls in South America. According to an ancient Indian legend the waterfall is named after a chief or Toshao 'Kai' who acted to save his people by paddling over the falls in an act of self-sacrifice to Makonaima, the great spirit.
